Marion County Sheriff Matt Bayles announced the department has identified the victim of a 1989 cold case homicide, 32 years later.
In July 1989, a deceased male was discovered in Flat Run Creek in Marion County, Ohio. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office was unable to identify the victim and the case went cold for many years. Having used genetic genealogy on an unrelated cold case, investigators with the Sheriff’s Office decided to try the same process with this case. They contacted DNA Doe Project again and, through their effort as well as the FBI and Ohio BCI laboratories, a match to John Kraicinsky was made.
An investigation revealed Kraicinsky has last been in contact with family in July 1989. He was never reported missing as the family believed he had just moved away to star another life.
“We have several other cold cases that we will continue to work to obtain justice for victims and closure for families,” said Bayles.
