Have an extra 30 to 60 minutes? Perhaps during your commute, or while you’re doing the dishes? If so, you may want to listen to a new forensic pathology podcast that seeks to dispel myths about the science.

Doing their part to fight against the CSI Effect, the University of Michigan and the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office have debuted “Detroit’s Daily Docket,” a weekly podcast dedicated to educating the lay public and armchair detectives about forensic pathology.

Presented by four highly experienced forensic pathologists in the University of Michigan/Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office, the eight-episode season will cover common topics, such as drug deaths, asphyxia, gunshot wounds, etc., through the lens of famous cases. The deaths of Prince, Carrie Fisher, Robin Williams, Britney Murphy, Whitney Houston and more will all be explored from a forensic perspective. Additionally, University of Michigan’s own Jeffrey Jentzen, who was the chief medical examiner in the Jeffrey Dahmer case, will be a guest presenter in one episode.

In addition to offering factual information via famous cases, Detroit’s Daily Docket provides a glimpse into different careers in forensic science, as well as more specific educational content, such as determining cause of death, the process behind an autopsy, what information goes on a death certificate and more. Given the current climate, at least one episode will focus on detailing the most up-to-date information on today’s opioid crisis.

Interested listeners can subscribe to the podcast through the University of Michigan or via streaming services including Apple Music, GooglePlay Music, Spotify and Pandora.
