On May 9, 1995, the body of a newborn baby was discovered in Fowl River near Old Pascagoula Road (Mobile, Ala.). An autopsy was conducted. The cause of death was drowning, and the manner of death was homicide. The infant was given the name “Angel Baby.”
The case remained cold until November 2022 when genealogy expert Olivia McCarter and Moxxy Forensic Investigations identified potential parents of “Angel Baby.”
On Nov. 14, 2024, 44-year-old Amber Therese Purdy was confirmed to be the mother of “Angel Baby." Purdy never reported her child missing.
Purdy was 15-years-old—a juvenile—when she gave birth to “Angel Baby.” Due to the juvenile law at the time of the crime, which was later changed in 2009, Purdy cannot be charged with the murder of her baby.
Investigators say Purdy did it to conceal the pregnancy. The case is now officially closed.
