On Aug.3, 1981, detectives with the U.S. Park Police recovered the remains of a young African-American man wrapped in a blanket alongside a Baltimore-Washington Parkway guardrail. Critical breakthroughs were made possible by advances in forensic science and DNA analysis, which provided investigative opportunities unavailable at the time of the murders. After 35 years, a man whose partial remains were discovered in a wooded area by a dog in Antioch, Tennessee has been identified as Phillip Sydnor, born in 1950.
