Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have arrested and charged a suspect in a nearly 40-year-old cold case homicide investigation. Larry Atkinson, 64, has been indicted for strangling 57-year-old Sarah Roberts, who suffered from emphysema, and her 26-year-old daughter Sharon, who was disabled. The suspect in the rape and murder of Mary Mathis Davis has been identified as Russell Grant Wood of Lexington, North Carolina, however he died in 2013, and will therefore not be indicted.
