Douglas County is nearing a deal to bring its morgue into the 21st Century. The new arrangement would more than double the facility's capacity.

"We're a growing county with regard to population and so it's a need that we have," said Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine, whose office -- under state law -- oversees the activities of the coroner.

Kleine describes the current morgue in the basement of the Douglas County Health Center at 42nd and Woolworth as "somewhat antiquated," and the forensic pathologists on his team need more space than the one autopsy room.
