Illinois Forensic Scientist of the Year is Fingerprint Expert

Within two hours, forensic scientist Ed Rottman identified a potential suspect using the state’s automated fingerprint identification system and handed that person’s name over to Rochelle police.

 

A man has been charged following the re-investigation of an alleged kidnapping and sexual assault of a young woman in Sydney’s south-west in the mid-1990s.

 

Some exclusions were made using a DNA profile developed from crime scene evidence, but the murderer was not identified. The case had again gone cold.

 

Using genetic genealogy tools, they identified individuals who could be related to her, and they applied genealogy research and used social media to identify potential common ancestors.

 

This partnership and training came as a growing body of research indicated that healthcare workers feel ill-equipped to spot the signs of trafficking and provide victims with resources.
