GBI Crime Lab Back in Business

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s (GBI) crime lab in Moultrie, which was shuttered due to budget constraints, is now operating on a limited basis.

The lab needs some significant repairs before it can begin processing evidence, but in the meantime it is serving as a receiving facility, saving law enforcement from having to drive evidence to other facilities.

The renovations are expected to be complete in early 2011, at which point the lab will once again be operational. The GBI is already in the process of rehiring personnel that was let go in March and replacing equipment that was moved to other labs.
