AIEWE 2013 Expert Witness Bootcamp Schedule
Serving as an expert witness can be a daunting challenge for even the most experienced professionals who are called upon to provide testimony in court. The nuances of the legal process, the tedium of the deposition process and the rigors of the courtroom require that professionals who serve as expert witnesses acquire skills extending well beyond their technical or scientific disciplines.
The American Institute for Expert Witness Education’s (AIEWE) Expert Witness Bootcamp is an intensive three-day clinic designed to develop and enhance the testifying and communication skills of professionals who serve as expert witnesses in the courtroom in a variety of industries including accounting, financial and valuation, marital dissolution, fraud investigation, medical, high technology, fire and others.
The AIEWE Bootcamp is not a program where attendees work on simulated case studies, but incorporates the attendee’s actual work product and engagements that are used to tailor and personalize the training. With real world scenarios, and focus on the particular types of venues where the attendees will be testifying, including jury and bench trials in federal and state courts, matrimonial courts, and in arbitration, the participants are coached and guided by members of the AIEWE faculty of seasoned experts, witness preparation consultants, strategic communications coaches, and trial attorneys who have an average of more than 25 years of experience.
Each participant will serve as a testifying expert in deposition and at trial, learn how to dissect and critique the reports and opinions of opposing experts, and explore ways to prepare counsel for the expert segments of trial. Each Bootcamp culminates in a courtroom setting during which each testifying expert presents and defends his or her own expert opinions on the witness stand where they are given the chance to hone their art of delivering effective testimony and how to withstand grueling cross-examination. These “on the stand” experiences are video captured and provided to the attendees so that after the training, they can refer back to the tips, techniques and feedback provided by the faculty and other attendees.
